Both my wife/husband and I work and pay Social Security taxes.
On which record will my benefit be based?
You will choose, based on which amount is higher. You are entitled to
receive benefits based on your own work record if you have worked long
enough to become eligible -- usually ten years...
However, if the benefits you could receive as a spouse are higher
than your own Social Security retirement benefits, you and your spouse
will receive a combined benefit based on the higher spouse’s benefit.
